What is Take Courage?
Watered Gardens Ministries has always remained prayerful in its decision-making. From its founding in 2000, when it was just a day outreach providing items to the poor and homeless in the community, to purchasing the Kentucky Avenue property and all the ways that space has been utilized, the ministry has continually sought God's direction. Through prayer and seeking the Lord's wisdom, Watered Gardens has always looked for ways to help more people find their way out of poverty and into freedom. The point is that from the start of the mission, Watered Gardens has remained steadfast in prayer, constantly seeking guidance from God on which steps are within His will.
It was no different when considering the logistics of building tiny homes for the truly disabled homeless in Joplin, Missouri. Through time spent in the Word and with God, one Scripture in particular stood out. In John 16:33, Jesus speaks to His disciples, telling them that they will experience troubles in this world. He then encourages them to take courage because He has overcome the world. This verse is especially encouraging because it reminds us that no matter how large we think the problem of poverty and homelessness is, Jesus is bigger.
On the other side of that coin, no matter how much trouble those we serve find themselves in, we serve a much bigger Savior. As we move forward, please pray for the implementation of a Christ-centered permanent supportive housing community and a trauma-informed transitional shelter. We are immeasurably grateful for the opportunity to take courage and extend the Church's reach to serve groups of people who have too often been overlooked.
